First Distribution Date! Tuesday, June 16th!

If Mother Nature cooperates, the first day of the Washington Heights CSA season will be Tuesday June 16th, 2009. Distribution takes place between 4:30 - 7:15PM at two locations: Behind New Leaf Cafe in Fort Tryon Park and Behind Ft. Washington Collegiate Church on Magaw Place at 181st St. You must pick up at the site you chose on your contract. If you are unable to come at that time, you can send someone else in your place. And we strongly encourage you to bring your own produce bags!

Good evening everyone,

I am a Washington Heights neighbor and Columbia University graduate student doing a communications thesis project on the New Leaf Restaurant in Fort Tryon Park. One of the things I am hoping to learn more about is the CSA that takes place there--and I figured this forum might be the place to that.

Recipe: Red Turnip Fries and Pear Turnip Soup

Turnip French Fries adapted from Mr. Neep

Chop the turnip into french-fry strips and (if you wish) lightly coat with oil.
Place on a flat baking sheet and sprinkle with sea salt.
Bake at 350-375 F for 20 minutes.
Try some different seasonings.....: basil, parsley, a little sea salt or a touch of cayenne and sea kelp.
